Experience

I am certified in the Barton System for reading and spelling. This is an Orton-Gillingham influenced, research based, simultaneously multisensory explicit and systematic phonics program. This program is proven successful in taking struggling students up to and beyond their grade level in reading and spelling. Once I realized my son was dyslexic, I took it upon myself to research, study and examine every possible solution to help him reach his potential in reading and spelling. This led to my training and certification in the Barton Reading & Spelling System. Using this method of teaching has not only increased his skill as a student, but it has also brought me to the rewarding path of tutoring children and adults with dyslexia. I have given presentations on dyslexia for parents and teachers at Henrietta Hankin Library in Chester Springs, PA.

Hobbies

Raising awareness about dyslexia being the number one reason bright students struggle with reading & spelling is a priority for me. My vision for all students is one where educators are aware that students with diagnosed or suspected dyslexia need not struggle. We have teaching methods that are proven to teach dyslexic students how to read and spell. I am available to give my presentation on dyslexia to groups of parents and teachers. It is incredibly gratifying as a tutor to be a part of a student's educational journey. On a personal note, I love nature, reading and spending time with my husband, three children, one dog, two cats, and three hamsters. Our newest family volunteering activity is raising orphan kittens.
